WINDSOR, Ontario, March 8, 2024 – On International Women’s Day, the WindsorEssex Community Foundation (WECF) hosted their first annual International Women’s Day Luncheon, bringing together a diverse community to celebrate the achievements, resiliency, and empowerment of women worldwide, while highlighting the local people and organizations within our very own community who are at the heart of the women’s movement, whose core activities, leadership, mission, and vision are committed to advancing gender equality.
The event, held at the Windsor Club, featured an inspiring lineup of speakers, engaging discussions, and networking opportunities. Attendees were treated to insightful conversations and got the opportunity to hear firsthand the remarkable achievements of nine (9) local organizations who have benefited from an investment made on behalf of the Fund for Gender Equality, which is a multi-year collaboration to advance gender equality. Through their innovative programs and initiatives, these local organizations at the heart of the women’s movement are making a tangible and lasting impact, creating opportunities for women to thrive and succeed. Whether it is providing access to education and skills training, supporting women entrepreneurs, or advocating for mental health, they have demonstrated a deep commitment to addressing the multifaced challenges facing women, girls, Two-Spirit, and gender-diverse people today. The WECF was happy to celebrate their accomplishments with them and share that over 20,000 people within Windsor-Essex County will be served by these projects, and 100% of the projects that are funded through the Fund for Gender Equality primarily benefit community members who self-identify as women, girls, Two-Spirit, and gender diverse people.
Speakers, including two young women Eva Anthony and Julia Hardcastle, who shared their personal experiences, and the positive impact Beauty is Me has had on them. Beauty is Me’s mission is to educate, uplift and celebrate the uniqueness and inherent value of Black children and Youth through their Project Perfectly is Me.
“We are thrilled to host this luncheon as a tribute to the strength and resilience of women everywhere, and to highlight the incredible local organizations at the heart of the women’s movement. The Luncheon provided a platform for attendees to connect, share ideas, and forge new partnerships in support of gender equality initiatives,” said Lisa Kolody, Executive Direction at the WindsorEssex Community Foundation. “It was an inspiring day filled with powerful stories and meaningful discussions. We are grateful to everyone who attended and are proud and excited to work alongside incredible organizations as we move together towards a just, feminist future and a world where gender equality is not only accepted, but celebrated – not just today, but every day!” Lisa Kolody, Executive Direction at the WindsorEssex Community Foundation
