The E.S. Acheson Graduates Giving Back Scholarship Program

The E.S. Acheson Graduates Giving Back Scholarship Program is a collection of five scholarships that target underrepresented groups of students in undergraduate and graduate programs in Canada:

  • the Indigenous Student Scholarship
  • the Disabilities and Mental Health Scholarship
  • the BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Colour) Scholarship
  • the Women in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) Scholarship
  • the LGBTQ2+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, and Two-Spirited) Scholarship

This scholarship program provides tuition funding for deserving students and acts as a mentorship program for scholarship recipients. For each of the five scholarships, one undergraduate student and one graduate student will receive a scholarship each year, with the graduate winner acting as a mentor for the undergraduate winner. Mentoring will consist of either in-person or virtual meetings once per month, where the undergraduate can request guidance or support from their mentor and experiences within academia can be shared.

The purpose of these scholarships is to support and encourage students who are underrepresented in Canadian academic institutions, while also providing a network of student mentors and mentees who support each other by offering guidance and sharing experiences.
