WECF Celebrates WERA Rainbow Picnic Table Project

The WindsorEssex Community Foundation is celebrating 40 Years of Inspiring Philanthropy throughout 2023, with a broad range of community investments. This year, we are investing in community to create projects that will invest in lasting change, reflect who we are as the people of Windsor and Essex County, value our sense of place and culture, and honour both our local history and our future as it unfolds. We are privileged to be celebrating our 40th Anniversary with phenomenal community partners.

 

On August 3, 2023, the Windsor Essex Rainbow Alliance announced their first completed community project in partnership with the Government of Canada, Canada Healthy Communities Initiative, WindsorEssex Community Foundation, Windsor Pride Community, Rotary Clubs in Windsor and the City of Windsor.

Six rainbow picnic tables in Lanspeary Park, off Ottawa Street, were recently installed for all to enjoy. The tables are displayed in the order of the colours of the rainbow flag, helping to create a safe and welcoming space for all community members and celebrate the 2SLGBTQIA community in Windsor & Essex County. The WindsorEssex Community Foundation was proud to join with WERA, Rotary, MP Irek Kusmierczyk, MP Brian Masse and community members and partners for this amazing celebration!
This community project is supported by the Canada Healthy Communities Initiative, a $60-million dollar investment from the Government of Canada. Through this initiative, the Government of Canada, alongside Community Foundations of Canada and the WindsorEssex Community Foundation, is building safer spaces and ensuring a higher quality of life for people across the country. There are over 1,000 projects taking place across Canada, including in every province and territory.
The WindsorEssex Community Foundation was able to amplify this funding with an additional investment in honour of our 40th Anniversary.
