The Harding Electric/Morris and Ruth Harding Memorial Fund was established by the late Shelley Harding-Smith, a local woman who believed in supporting our young people and honouring those who are no longer with us. Shelley was born and raised in Windsor. As a young woman, she attended St. Clair College, became an indentured Electrical Apprentice, and eventually became a Master Electrician/Electrical Contractor. Growing up, Shelley worked at Harding Electric, a company owned and operated by her parents Morris and Ruth Harding. Working side by side with her parents, she understood the importance and value of the skilled trades in the Windsor and Essex County community. She strongly believed there is not enough support for the skilled trade industry, especially with our history as nation builders. In 1999, Shelley established the Harding Electric/Morris and Ruth Harding Memorial Fund at the WindsorEssex Community Foundation in honour of her parents. Her direction was to create a bursary fund to support youth. The Harding Electric Bursary supports local students entering the skilled trades. This type of fund allows donors to make lasting gifts recognizing student potential. Harding Electric/Morris and Ruth Harding Memorial Fund is leaving a legacy, now and forever.
