I’m A Donor

All donations, no matter how large or small, make a difference

To build a better Windsor-Essex community, the Foundation works with donors to build legacy funds. Donors can make gifts to existing funds or establish their own fund within the Community Foundation.
What makes the WECF unique from other charities is that we don’t spend your donation. Instead, your gift is held in perpetuity and only the interest earned from its investment is used to grant back to the community. This means that your donation becomes your legacy. Your one-time gift will forever remain part of the WECF, guaranteeing future gift-giving today and tomorrow.
Your gift can be directed toward an existing fund, used to establish a new fund, directed immediately to a community charity through a Flow-through, or directed to one of our many programs. The foundation is happy to assist you in your gift-giving options. To understand the tax advantages for each gift type, both present and future gifts, we suggest you consult your financial advisor or contact the WECF office 519-255-6572

Many are discovering the different ways you can work with your Community Foundation to give back to Windsor-Essex

The Community Foundation Difference:

Your donations benefit your community forever. All donations are pooled into funds and invested together to achieve greater returns at a lower cost. The income generated from these investments form grants that benefit registered charities in the community. Your donation is never spent – it will continue to provide meaningful financial support for generations to come.

Flexible, Affordable Giving Options:

You can make a donation through an outright gift of cash, a gift of life insurance, stocks, bonds or other assets. The gift can be made during your lifetime or left to the Foundation in a bequest. Donations may be pledged over a period of time. You can decide what type of fund you want to contribute to or you can start your own fund and decide how involved you would like to be on a go-forward basis in the grant-making process.

Tax Benefits:

In addition to supporting your community, your donation is also tax-deductible. You will receive a donation receipt from The WindsorEssex Community Foundation with all the information necessary for your records and for income tax purposes.

Establishing a fund at the WECF is a very simple and straightforward process

The community foundation works closely with individuals, their professional advisors and businesses to facilitate charitable giving. One of the many ways donors can support their community is by establishing an endowment fund within the Foundation. For a donor, creating a legacy fund is to touch the lives of his or her neighbors and future generations to come. For the community, a legacy fund provides continual assistance for programs and services that promote and sustain a strong community. The foundation offers several types of funds, each designed to present something different to our donors that will suit their philanthropic objectives.
Establishing a fund at the WECF is an excellent alternative to creating a private foundation, cutting down on expensive overhead costs and benefiting from the foundation’s qualified and trusted investment team. Itensures your legacy continues on for generations to come

If you are interested in establishing a fund at the WECF we would be happy to meet with you and discuss all the options available to you. Please contact us to arrange an appointment with our Executive Director 519-255-6572 or lkolody@wecf.ca

Together we are building an even better Windsor-Essex

Think of the WindsorEssex Community Foundation as a community savings account. Donations are held in permanent endowment funds and pooled for investment purposes. The income earned is used to make grants, as directed by the funds’ donors, to charities whose projects fit our mission of “building a better Windsor-Essex community.”

Types of Funds

Community Fund are composed of many gifts, large and small, each symbolizing a lasting investment in our area. Grants from these funds are awarded through our Community Impact, Fast-Track, and KidStart Grant programs, allowing us to respond flexibly to our communities’ immediate needs and priorities.
Field of Interest Funds allow donors to identify a specific area of interest that they wish to support. Local grant recipients are determined by the foundation’s grant making review committee, ensuring that the fund remains responsive to the community’s needs while supporting the donor’s interests.
Donor Advised Funds allow fund holders to work closely with the foundation’s grant making review committee to select projects and organizations that mean the most to them. They operate much like private foundations, but without the cost and administrative work for the donor.
Donor Designated Funds allow donors to make lasting gifts to their favourite charities. With the establishment of a fund, donors select one or more charitable organizations, local or national to benefit from their fund.
Scholarship Funds allow donors to make lasting gifts recognizing student potential. The scholarship funds provided are directed to the college or university of the student’s choice.
Agency Funds allow area charities a safe and efficient way to establish their own endowment fund while benefiting from our investment and administrative expertise.
Managed Funds are established with the community foundation in order to benefit from the foundation’s professional investment management.
