International Mother Language Day (IMLD) is a worldwide annual observance held on February 21 to promote awareness of linguistic and cultural diversity and multilingualism. On this day, millions of people pay homage to the language martyrs who sacrificed their lives to retain their mother language. IMLD, an initiative of Bangladesh, was formally recognized by UNESCO on November 17, 1999, to recognize the events of February 21, 1952, in which police opened fire on rallies held by students of the University of Dhaka.

A long-term vision of the Bangladesh-Canada Association, Windsor-Essex (BCAWE), is to have an International Mother Language Plaza (IMLP) standing in the heart of City of Windsor to show solidarity and compassion toward Windsorites. In recognition of the glorious history of the language movement in Bangladesh, the Corporation of the City of Windsor approved our proposal to erect an International Mother Language Plaza. We are glad to announce that the structural design of the monument is already complete. The location will be negotiated with the Corporation of the City of Windsor.

Now, we are raising funds to make the dream come true. We are just one step away from bringing our vision to life. To realize our goal, we need to raise at least $100,000 CAD. Your moral and financial support will make a difference. Please consider making a donation.
